in the Someone Editions Book Salon and Gallery
About the Project
Artists Andrew Kostjuk and Deborah Barnett are collaborators in the creation of a limited edition fine print prospectus announcing the up-coming 64-page collectible artists' book, Terrify Me, sampling an excerpt from Kostjuk's text and image content, and presenting the paper and print treatments that will make the art print publication a significant and collectible book experience.
Demonstrating the effects to be employed in the production of the completed artists' book, the prospectus design layers a sample of Kostjuk's horrific text and a photo, onto a print of a digital closeup, full bleed, of a photo of skin. The translucent overlay tipped on at the spine, is a duotone, letterpress-printed on mulberry paper, with shellac and aniline dye. It speaks of fragility, a disturbing finish and effect.
n the 2025, with the final book release of Terrify Me this tissue layer will become the outer cover, layering over inner covers of card weight, acid free Italian, Plike. In both the Prospectus and the Book, it is the use of texture, impression, translucency and fragility in Terrify Me that combines with the text and images to echo Kostjuk's internal exploration of "Body, Being, Mortality."
