About
Edited by Beatriz Hausner, The French Letter Society is an experimental collective publishing program at Someone Editions pairing poets with visual artists to create mailable fine-press objects.
Born out of a concept developed by Barnett and the late poet and artist Corrado Paina, the French Letter Society follows in the tradition of fine limited edition publishing and printing, where emphasis is placed on incorporating short texts and original art into exquisite design and expert printing by hand. Each ‘French Letter’ is comprised of one poem and one original artwork, with design, typesetting, and manual printing performed in-house.
By producing book objects that disrupt the traditional form and authority of the book, FLS deconstructs preconceived notions about print. Each French Letter combines an original poem and visual art insert, in numbered literary letterpress chapbooks in printed envelopes.
