someone:water Six Broadsides in a Box

The someone:water series was started in 2009 with someone:water one, The Shore, by A.F. Moritz. That same year, the author was awarded the prestigious Griffin Poetry Prize. The series developed through the following years, with someone:water two: Astrida Neimanis’ We Are All Bodies of Water (2011), someone:water three: Beatriz Hausner and Seth Scriver’s The Metaphysics of Water (2012), and someone:water five: Pamela Dodds’ Swimmers (2014).

The collection was completed for launch in December 2017 with the release of two new broadsides: someone:water four: The Waters are Divided by Paul Till and someone:water six: Pas De Deux by Karl Jirgens with image by Zile Liepins.

Editor Beatriz Hausner, who is also the author of someone:water three, has brought the literary component of this collection to fruition, while Deborah Barnett has guided the visual components, and designed and printed the series.

The title page for the boxed sets is based on a composition built in wood type and printed with the use of split fountain technique where three colours of ink, blue green and white, are added to the rollers at one time, creating a graduation of the colours that changes subtly with each print as the ink mixes on the rollers. Flat copies of the wood type composition for the title pages are available without the titling, bylines and publisher's mark.

Box is cut from original monoprints, duplexed for strength and for contrast created between inside and outside.

The boxes, designed and produced in the Someone Editions atelier, art directed by Deborah Barnett; monoprints by Claro Cosco with facilitation by Jerry Silverberg.

Six original monoprints have been held back from title page and box production, to be made available as flat prints for framing.

Each of the signed and numbered collections of six letterpress broadsides and title page, has been produced in the edition of 26 copies, and contained in a custom folded Stonehenge paper box.
